History and description of the work

Founded in 1922, the Tennis Club des Arquebusiers now boasts 1,135 members and a tennis school with over 750 players, making it one of Luxembourg's most dynamic and important sports clubs. For over a century, the club has been committed to promoting tennis and the development of young athletes in Luxembourg City and the surrounding region. After the construction of a new tennis hall with 3 additional courts in 2017, the club is continuing to grow and invest in its infrastructure.

The new, modern and welcoming facility will further enhance the district’s sports infrastructure, supporting tennis and local community activities.

  • The pavilion: At 46 metres long and 5.70 metres wide, the new pavilion has several functions. Designed as a multi-purpose space to meet the needs of athletes of all ages, the pavilion includes a gym area and also serves as a clubhouse and venue for meetings and club events. The entire roof area is accessible and can be used as a visitor terrace overlooking the outdoor courts. The construction project is part of the City of Luxembourg's policy to modernise and diversify sports facilities that are accessible to all generations.
  • Restaurant extension: The restaurant has been extended to include a large part of its existing outdoor area, which was previously a flat roof. A steel and concrete structure, with wooden coffered ceiling elements, has been used to create a new, welcoming space for members and visitors to the club and restaurant.
  • Elevator: The existing building has been fitted with an elevator to ensure accessibility for all to the club office, restaurant and terrace.
  • Complete renovation of sanitary facilities on the first floor.
  • Installation of two external galvanised-steel emergency staircases for safe evacuation from the upper floor.

The project, costing a total of €3,286,647.86 incl. VAT, was largely financed by a special grant of €2,606,846 from the City of Luxembourg, which was approved by the City's Municipal Council at its meeting of 26 February 2024. The club itself contributed €679,801.86, with the Ministry of Sport having pledged its support for the sports infrastructure component, demonstrating a shared commitment to a high-quality, sustainable sporting environment.
