Introduction

The measures taken during the COVID-19 pandemic have had a major impact on shops, hotels, restaurants and cafés. Because vibrant business activity is crucial for our city, the College of Aldermen of the City of Luxembourg has taken a number of steps to support local business. One of these is the direct voucher purchase scheme.

Vouchers

This scheme saw the municipal administration purchase 20 vouchers worth €50 each from all interested businesses.

The scheme was a resounding success: in response to a call for participation in June 2020, 1,086 businesses of all types took advantage of this offer. As a result, 21,720 vouchers were purchased, representing €1,086,000 in direct financial assistance. To ensure that those from lower-income backgrounds could also benefit from the scheme, the College of Aldermen decided to donate 5,320 vouchers to the City's Direction des Affaires sociales (Social Affairs Directorate), which will hand them out separately.

"Businesses in the city" brochure – Door-to-door distribution

In August 2020, all households in Luxembourg City received a brochure listing the 1,086 businesses for which they may win vouchers. You can enter by simply filling in the prepaid form on the back of the brochure and posting it back to the City. Winners will be drawn at random, with two draws being held in September 2020.

Postcards

Between mid-August and mid-September 2020, City of Luxembourg greeters handed out prepaid postcards at various times and at various locations around the city. People wishing to take part using a postcard simply need to fill it in and send it back. Again, winners will be drawn at random on two occasions in September 2020.

Draws

Winners will be drawn at random under the supervision of a notary.

  • Online form and social media campaigns: every week, from among that week's participants. Please note that priority is given to those who did not win in previous weeks.

Previous winners:

  • Week 1: Friday, 7 August to Thursday, 13 August (drawn on 14 August): 7,130 entrants, and 1,167 vouchers given away
  • Week 2: Friday, 14 August to Thursday, 20 August (drawn on 21 August): 5,698 entrants, and 1,162 vouchers given away
  • Week 3: Friday, 21 August to Thursday, 27 August (drawn on 28 August): 6,620 entrants, and 1,156 vouchers given away
  • Week 4: Friday, 28 August to Thursday, 3 September (drawn on 4 September): 7,307 entrants, and 1,158 vouchers given away
  • Week 5: Friday, 4 September to Thursday, 10 September (drawn on 11 September): 7,642 entrants, and 2,239 vouchers given away

How many vouchers are available to win?

How do I take part?

  • You can enter either by sending back the entry form above, or by following the instructions in our social media posts (on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn). You can enter more than one competition.
     
  • In August 2020, all households in Luxembourg City will receive a brochure, "Businesses in the city", listing all the businesses for which they may win vouchers. If you wish to enter the competitions, fill out the pre-paid entry form and return it by post.
     
  • The City will be enlisting greeters to hand out postcards at different times and places around Luxembourg City throughout August 2020. To enter, fill out the pre-paid postcard and post it back.

I won! Where can I collect my voucher?

After you receive the "bon de retrait", you can exchange it for a voucher at the Infobus space on Place d'Armes:

The Infobus space is open from Monday to Saturday, 8:00–18:00.

What is the deadline to claim my voucher?

You can collect your voucher until 30 October 2020. If winners do not collect their vouchers before Friday, 30 October 2020, the winnings will be deemed null and void.

Where can I use my voucher?

The voucher is redeemable at the Luxembourg City business stated on the voucher.
