DIMANCHE 18 OCTOBRE À 10h30

Conservatoire de la Ville de Luxembourg - Salle polyvalente

Flavia HIRTE, flute

Ezgi GÖKTÜRK, piano

The time travelling Flute traces the instrument’s transformation from the Baroque traverso to the modern Boehm-system flute. In this recital, flautist Flavia Hirte together with pianist Ezgi Göktürk outlines how developments in keywork, bore design, and materials gradually changed the flute’s technical and expressive possibilities. Short spoken introductions frame each era, with illustrative excerpts performed on appropriate historical flutes to demonstrate differences in color, articulation, and dynamic range.

The main program is performed on modern instruments, letting the repertoire be heard with the sound and projection of today’s instrument while remaining grounded in its historical context. Through these contrasts, listeners gain insight into how composers such as Bach, Schubert and Taffanel wrote with very different instruments—and aesthetics—in mind.

.

Presented within the Actart concert series at the Conservatoire de Luxembourg, the evening offers a concise overview of three centuries of flute playing, combining performance, explanation, and practical demonstration. It is designed to give audiences a deeper understanding of the flute’s evolution and of how shifting technical capabilities shaped the music created for it.
