According to tradition, young men give the object of their affection a pretzel on Bretzelsonndeg, which this year falls on Sunday, 15 March. If the young lady returns the suitor's feelings, she gives him an Easter egg three weeks later, on Easter Sunday.
A few days early this year, on Tuesday, 10 March, the Section des Patrons Boulangers-Pâtissiers (Chapter of Master Bakers and Pastry Chefs) of the Confédération Liewensmëttelhandwierk presented the College of the Mayor and Aldermen of the City of Luxembourg with a pretzel. It was a lovely opportunity to showcase this ancient tradition and the hallowed professions of baker and pastry chef, which are so important in our daily lives.
