Mobile drinking fountains for public events
The City also has six mobile drinking fountains that it provides, free of charge, for public events held in the capital.
These can be deployed during activities organised either directly by the City of Luxembourg, or by sports clubs and local associations. They provide drinking water during events, helping promote public health and protect the environment.
However, they are not available for private events, such as family celebrations, birthdays or smaller gatherings.
Terms and conditions, and how to apply
To apply for a mobile drinking fountain, you must meet the following conditions:
- Applications must be submitted using the form below.
- You must submit your application at least 3 months prior to the event to allow for analysis and logistical planning.
- You must include an attachment (photo, sketch, map, etc.) showing the exact location where the fountain would be installed.
- As there are a limited number of fountains, duly completed applications that are submitted on time are processed on a first-come, first-served basis.
- All conditions also apply to recurring events held at the same time each year. There are no exceptions.
This approach means the City can manage its resources optimally, guarantee the safety of its facilities and continue to promote sustainable water consumption at public events.
Order of priority if there is a clash of events
If several events are taking place at the same time, priority for a mobile drinking fountain will apply as follows:
- events organised by or for the City of Luxembourg (municipal departments, official events, institutional events, etc.);
- events organised by clubs, societies or associations based in Luxembourg City;
- other authorised public events organised by bodies from outside the municipality.
Follow-up and confirmation
Once the application has been submitted, an employee from the Service Eaux (Water Department) will contact you to discuss the feasibility, location and logistics of the installation.
You will be sent written confirmation once the application has been accepted. Without this confirmation, the application is not considered to have been approved.
Model allocation
Applicants for a mobile fountain cannot choose a specific model.
The type of fountain allocated to you depends on:
- the type of event;
- the planned location;
- the number of people expected to attend;
- the logistics of installing it.
The Water Department will determine the most appropriate model to ensure water is distributed efficiently and safely at each event.
Types of mobile drinking fountains
Currently, the City has five different models available, depending on the type of event and the quantity of water required on the day.
The cube (Waassercube)
A hybrid model, the Waassercube can be directly connected to the mains water supply, or filled with 2400 litres of drinking water.
It is fairly bulky, so requires additional logistical operations for transport and installation, making it ideal for long-term events – typically those lasting several weeks.
The column (Waassersail)
Standing tall and elegant, the Waassersail is directly connected to the mains water supply, providing a continuous supply of drinking water without the need for tank storage.

A hybrid model, the Waaserkiosk has a 200-litre drinking water tank, but can also be connected to the mains water supply.
The chalet (Waasserhäischen)
A hybrid model with an attractive design, the Waasserhäischen has capacity for up to 1000 litres of drinking water. Like other hybrid models, it can also be directly connected to the mains supply.
However, its large tank is perfect for outdoor events where it cannot be connected to the mains.
The trailer (Waasserremorque)
Practical and transportable, the Waasserremorque can hold up to 500 litres of drinking water.
Quick to set up, it is ideal for one-off or roving events. This is the only model that cannot be connected to the mains.
