Athletics stadium

The Luxembourg-Hamm athletics stadium's sports complex will comprise the following facilities and equipment:

• a competition stadium with an eight-lane, World Athletics 400 Metre Standard Track–compliant athletics track, plus:
  • a mobile terrace seating 1,000 spectators;
  • fixed stands seating 400 spectators;

• a main building covering 12,740 m², comprising:
  • an 867-seat fixed terrace;
  • a 5,511 m² sports hall;
  • a 450 m² weight-lifting room;
  • two multi-purpose rooms;
  • offices and meeting rooms;
  • two refreshment stalls;
  • nine changing rooms;
  • a call room;
  • an anti-doping control room;
  • various additional premises and storage areas;

• a roof equipped with a 968 kWp photovoltaic system;
• a four-lane, 400-metre training track traversing the sports hall;
• a two-lane, 50-metre inclined training track;
• a 430 m² hall for throwing sports;
• basins with an overall capacity of 1,500 m³, for the collection, retention and infiltration of rainwater, which will also be used to water the natural-turf pitches;
• a 1.8-hectare, landscaped public park with:
  • footpaths, and a bark-mulch running trail (Finnenbahn);
  • four themed playgrounds, namely:
    • "swing-set paradise" (Schaukel-Paradies);
    • "ball-game arena" (Ballspiel-Arena), with a 3x3 streetball court, table-tennis tables, teqball tables, and a Sportbox for sports equipment rentals;
    • "explorer excavations" (Entdeckergruef);
    • "agility trail" (Geschécklechkeetspad);
• a five-place bus park;
• a technical room housing the power-supply and technical equipment for the entire complex.

As the complex will be a "World Athletics – Construction Category 1"–certified facility, it will be able to host world-class events.

The free space is organised as a corridor system comprising a network of passageways that includes a service corridor and an adjacent running track (Finnenbahn), which together make up a fitness trail with several game and exercise stations along it.

Each station is designed around a specific theme with its own distinctive features, creating a coherent spatial layout that is easy to navigate. A peripheral tree-lined zone demarcates an opening onto activity areas featuring several game stations.

In all, more than 100 new trees will be planted. The highly vegetated landscape is intended to mirror the visual and environmental qualities of an urban forest, thereby enhancing the climatic resilience of the Hamm district.
