The Journey of the Compás: External Influences on Flamenco is an interactive conference that invites the audience to explore how flamenco has absorbed and transformed sounds and rhythms from around the world, shaping its unique identity as a living, evolving art form, celebrated all over the world. From the addition of the Peruvian cajón, now essential in flamenco’s rhythm, to flamenco forms that bear an unmistakable influence from the Americas, like the guajiras, we will unfold stories of migration, dialogue, and cultural exchange. To bring these influences to life, members of the flamenco group Pa’lante will perform short pieces throughout the conference, offering illustrations that bring to life the subjects discussed in the conference. This is not only a journey through flamenco, but also a reflection on how cultures enrich one another when they meet.
