Beginning on Sunday, 4 August 2019, there will be some changes to the traffic flow on Rue Notre-Dame, Rue Chimay and Rue Philippe II to make way for the new tram line.

The following changes will come into effect:

  • For vehicular traffic:

    • Access to Rue Notre-Dame from Boulevard Roosevelt will be provided via Rue Chimay (passing Hôtel Cravat): at this intersection, cars will be able to turn either left or right. From Rue Philippe II, cars will not be able to turn onto Rue Notre-Dame. Instead, they will be able to exit onto Boulevard Roosevelt, where they will be able to turn either right to Place de Bruxelles or left to Place de la Constitution.

    • One-way traffic on Rue Notre-Dame will be inverted on the section between Rue Philippe II and Rue Chimay. As such, traffic on this section – and this section only – will flow from Rue Chimay to Rue Philippe II.

    • The parking lanes on both sides of Rue Notre-Dame between Rue Philippe II and Rue Chimay will be repurposed: on the odd-numbered side of the street, these will be turned into 24/7 delivery zones, while on the even-numbered side of the street, these parking lanes will be converted into a taxi rank and disabled parking.
  • For cyclists:

    • Access to Rue Notre Dame from Boulevard Roosevelt will be provided via Rue Philippe II and Rue Chimay. A cycle lane in the opposite direction to motorised traffic will be put in place on the section between Rue Philippe II and Rue Chimay.

    • Bicycle parking racks will be installed outside Nos 10 and 34 on Rue Notre Dame.

The City of Luxembourg wishes to remind road users that a number of parking options are available to the public in the city centre, including the car parks Royal Hamilius (584 spaces) and Monterey (340 spaces), which are located close the pedestrian zone and are easily accessed from all major thoroughfares.

The Service Circulation (Traffic Department) will put in place proper signage to make sure road users are made aware of the new traffic flow in this area.
