On Tuesday, 15 September, to mark the start of the 2020–2021 school year, Mayor Lydie Polfer and Colette Mart (alderwoman in charge of education) paid a visit to Bonnevoie elementary school on Rue de Verger, where they met children in Cycles 1–4.

In all, 5,197 children started the new year across the City's 19 elementary schools. Of those, 1,886 are enrolled in Cycle 1 (early learning and pre-school) and 3,310 in Cycles 2–4. Pupils are distributed among 357 classes staffed by 587 teachers (enseignants and chargés de cours) and 60 educators (éducateurs diplômés and éducateurs gradués).
