Rue du Fossé to be temporarily pedestrianised

Plan de situation_extension provisoire de la zone piétonne_31.07.2020-31.08.2020

In order to provide more support for businesses and after receiving positive feedback about other measures (the relocation of the taxi rank along Rue Notre-Dame on 17 June 2020 and the removal of curbside parking along Rue de Strasbourg on 13 July 2020), the college of aldermen has decided to temporarily pedestrianise Rue du Fossé.

Not only will this make the city centre and its shops more appealing to residents and visitors, it will reduce traffic in the area, thereby encouraging more people to come on foot or by bike, and in turn, promote active travel.

As such, the City of Luxembourg would like to notify the public and road users that from Friday, 31 July to Monday, 31 August 2020, the section of Rue du Fossé between Rue de l’Eau and Rue du Nord will be closed to vehicular traffic, except for individuals with an access permit. Delivery zones will remain accessible in line with current regulations.

With regard to public transport services, the City Shopping Bus and AVL line 19 will operate as usual and their routes will not be affected.

During this period, traffic will be diverted via the René Konen tunnel (St Esprit tunnel). The Service Circulation (Traffic Department) will install proper road signage and will signpost the route by which to leave the area.
