On Tuesday, 16 April 2024, the City once again held its traditional Big Clean Up to educate young people about responsible waste-disposal practices. As part of this awareness raising campaign organised by the City's Service Hygiène (Sanitation Department) and Service Jeunesse et intervention sociale (Youth and Social Intervention Department) together with the Lycée Aline Mayrisch on the Geesseknäppchen campus, around 50 pupils spent a morning collecting waste around campus. They placed the rubbish collected in a see-through container that allowed passers-by to visualise exactly how much waste had been discarded on the pavements and public squares, as well as in green spaces.

This initiative gave these young people greater insight into the issue of waste management in Luxembourg City – especially in the areas surrounding their school campus – and a better understanding of how hard the Service Hygiène works every day to keep this neighbourhood, as well as the entire city, clean.
