On Thursday, 12 December 2019, LUCA (Luxembourg Center for Architecture) presented its eighth Luxembourg Architecture Award (LAA). A total of 44 projects made it through to the finals, and the City is proud to announce that three projects for which it is project owner received awards at the official ceremony.
- The social/intergenerational housing project on Rue de Muhlenbach, by ARLETTE SCHNEIDERS ARCHITECTES, won the top prize in the Residential Architecture category.
- The winner in the Civil Engineering Structures category was the Pont Adolphe passageway by CBA Christian Bauer & Associés Architectes.
- Also in the Civil Engineering Structures category, the Ban de Gasperich water tower by Jim Clemes Associates had also been nominated for the prize.
- Also of note was the Luxexpo – Place de l'Étoile tramway project, which won first prize in the Landscape Architecture & Outdoor/Public Spaces category. The project was submitted by the temporary partnership, Etram (Egis, Paul Wurth S.A., Felgen & Associés Engineering S.A., Beng Architectes Associés, atelier VILLES & PAYSAGES, Luxplan S.A.), and the project owner, Luxtram S.A., is a company in which the City is a shareholder.
All of the submitted projects were evaluated based on the criteria of architectural significance and identity, functionality and quality of concept, as well as use of space and relationship with their environment (outdoor spaces, landscapes, streets, etc.).
