Due to the sharp rise in the number of COVID-19 cases, the College of Aldermen has decided to cancel the Christmas markets and entertainment planned for the Winterlights 2020 festival.

The City of Luxembourg has come to the conclusion that holding the Christmas markets would not be in line with the government’s efforts to curb the spread of COVID-19.

Mayor Lydie Polfer had this to say: "Despite the tireless efforts of the Service Espace public, fêtes et marchés (Department of Public Spaces, Festivals and Markets), the Winterlights 2020 festival must be cancelled in order to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic. Now more than ever, we all need to take the necessary precautions and adhere to the applicable public-health measures. Since holding the Christmas markets would endanger the health of the city's residents and visitors, the College of the Mayor and Aldermen has decided to cancel this year’s Christmas markets and entertainment in the capital."

Nevertheless, the city will be aglow with a sea of twinkling lights and decorations for the festive season.
