My voice, my choice

Municipal elections are held every 6 years and the next municipal elections are scheduled to take place on 11 June 2023. In taking part in the municipal elections, residents will be able to vote directly for the municipal councillors who will represent their interests and, in so doing, help shape municipal policy decisions

To answer any questions about the municipal elections, the City has set up a hotline that is open from Monday to Friday from 8:00 to 17:00, until Friday, 9 June 2023:
Tel.: 4796-2203.

On Election Day

Election notice

At least five days before election day, the College of the Mayor and Aldermen will send each registered voter an election notice specifying the election date, poll opening and closing times, the polling station and, if there is more than one polling station, the one that the voter is assigned to.

Documents to bring on election day

When you go to vote, you must bring your ID card, passport, residence permit or residence card.

Applying to the Public Prosecutor to be excused

Voting is compulsory for everyone who is registered to vote.

Voters who are unable to vote must notify the Public Prosecutor with territorial jurisdiction for their place of residence, stating their reasons and providing the necessary supporting documents. If the Public Prosecutor finds that the reasons given are valid, no legal proceedings will be initiated against the voter.

The following are automatically exempted from voting:

  • voters who, at the time of the election, reside in a municipality other than the one where they are called to vote;
  • voters over 75 years of age.

Walbus

To ensure that people with reduced mobility, people with other temporary or permanent special needs, and elderly people who have difficulty getting around can vote, the City will be providing the "Walbus" shuttle service to take them to their polling stations.

On election day, the "Walbus" service will be available from 7:30 to 14:30 in all districts of Luxembourg City, serving people who may have difficulty getting to their polling station. To ensure that this service runs smoothly, we ask that you book your ride in advance by calling the hotline by Friday, 9 June 2023 (Tel.: 4796-3845, Monday to Saturday, 8:00–18:00). This service is free.

To avoid any misunderstandings, please make sure to bring your election notice specifying your designated polling station.
