Monday, 16 September: "E Kaddo fir de Vëlo"

An annual event organised jointly by the Verkéiersverbond, Lëtzebuerger Vëlos-Initiativ and the City of Luxembourg. Distribution of carry-bags containing gadgets, brochures and leaflets – including the latest leaflet on cycle lanes and paths in Luxembourg City – to all cyclists passing by the Rond-point Schuman.

Wednesday, 18 September: awareness-raising campaign on road safety and traffic-calming near schools

The aim of the campaign – which also includes a competition – is to raise awareness among schoolchildren, their parents and other road users travelling through school zones of the need for traffic-calming in these areas, and more generally, to heighten road safety awareness.

Schoolchildren are encouraged to walk or cycle to school. School-goers taking part in the campaign will be given a special sticker every day. Those who manage to collect the most stickers will receive a special prize at an official awards ceremony in October.

Thursday, 19 September: inclusion and mobility for all

An awareness day to draw attention to inclusive and safe methods of transport for all. Members of the public will be given the opportunity to try out various modes of transport – including some lesser known ones – on a signposted circuit. The circuit will be open to cyclists, pedestrians and wheelchair users, as well as various adapted bikes such as joëllettes, bécassines and tandems.

A number of performances and activities are also planned, including:

  • Majorettes de Luxembourg   
  • Ile aux clowns
  • Face-painting workshops for children
  • Concert by Flatbush
  • Food and drinks
  • Information booths

This event, which is coordinated by the City, is organised with the support of several partners, including Info-Handicap, the CFL, the Verkéiersverbond, Luxtram, Fonds Kirchberg, Luxairport, Back to Sport, the non-profit association Tricentenaire, Adapth, the Association Nationale des Victimes de la Route and Fondation Lëtzebuerger Blannevereenegung.

Friday, 20 September: "Share the City"

A new awareness-raising campaign on the importance of mutual respect among road users. The City of Luxembourg is committed to fostering a culture of mutual respect among motorists, cyclists and pedestrians.

Saturday, 21 and Sunday, 22 September: free guided multimodal tours

4 free, guided multimodal tours at various locations across the capital, provided by the Luxembourg City Tourist Office.

Kirchberg: art and architecture – Saturday at 11:00 (LU/EN) and 16:00 (LU/FR)

A multimodal tour – by funicular, bus, tram and foot – to discover the artistic and architectural gems of the ever-changing Kirchberg district.

  • Starting point: CFL-Kirchberg station (platforms)
  • Duration: 2 hours
  • Tour groups limited to 20 persons

Pfaffenthal: a multimodal experience – Sunday at 11:00 (LU/EN) and 16:00 (LU/FR)

A tour affording panoramic views of Luxembourg City from the Pfaffenthal–Ville Haute elevator, the City Shuttle and Pfaffenthal-Kirchberg funicular.

  • Starting point: upper platform of the elevator (Pescatore Park)
  • Duration: 2 hours
  • Tour groups limited to 11 people

Free public transport

All public transport services (RGTR, AVL, CFL, TICE and Luxtram) will be free nationwide. Bus, train and tram services will be free from 16 to 22 September 2019.
