Planned completion: summer 2020

Traffic information

What is the current traffic situation?

For vehicular traffic:

The streets in question will be blocked off, one by one, as the project progresses; a 3.5-metre wide vehicle passage will be guaranteed at all times for local residents and emergency services.

Starting on 14 July 2019, Rue d'Eich will be one-way in the direction of the city centre, between Montée Pilate and Rue Auguste Laval. Starting on 28 July 2019, Rue München-Tesch will be one-way in the direction of Kirchberg, between Rue Auguste Laval and Rue de Stavelot.

Vehicular access to private properties will be maintained as long as physically possible. Pedestrian access and access for emergency services will be guaranteed throughout the duration of the works.

For businesses and deliveries:

The City of Luxembourg will try to ensure access for deliveries to local businesses throughout the duration of the works. A temporary delivery location for restaurant owners has been put in place near the work site.

For public transport users:

The following changes to public transport services will be in effect:

  • From 14 July 2019 to the end of December 2019

Municipal bus lines 10 and 11 travelling towards Beggen and Steinsel will be rerouted as of the "Eecherplaz" stop via Rue Auguste Laval, Rue München-Tesch and Rue Raspert. The "Eecher Klinik" stop will be replaced by a temporary stop in front of No. 8 on Rue de Beggen.

Due to these traffic changes, bus lines 10, 11, 12, 21 and 23 may experience delays; the City of Luxembourg recommends that bus users allow for longer travel times.

  • From 28 July 2019 to 15 September 2019

Bus line 8: coming from Kirchberg, line 8 will end at "Weimerskirch-Duerf". The "Lavals Park" and "Eich, centre culturel" stops will not be served.

Line 12: travelling towards the city centre, line 12 will be rerouted between the "Van der Meulen Quai 2" and "Eecherplaz Quai 3" stops via the N11 (Dommeldange bypass). The "Biechelchen", "Tommys Bruch", "Knupp" and "Lavals Park" stops will be replaced by the "Dommeldange, Contournement" stop.

As construction progresses, the traffic constrictions will change.

Progress to date

Project update:

An exemption from the 2019 collective summer leave has been granted for this works project. The works are progressing as scheduled, and the contractor is even two weeks ahead of their schedule.

How long will the work take?

Planned completion: summer 2020.

What work has already been completed?

The first and second phases of the works have been completed.

What remains to be done?

We are currently entering phases 3a and 3b of the works. These new phases will require changes in traffic flows on Rue d'Eich and Rue München-Tesch. (See traffic information above.)

On section 1 on the odd-numbered side of Rue d'Eich, the contractor will begin by installing the temporary water and gas mains. The contractor will then begin the sewage works and then conclude with the work on the dry utility networks for the needs of Creos Électricité, Post Luxembourg, the Service TIC and the Service Éclairage public.

On section 5 on Rue München-Tesch, from the left side of the bridge in the direction of Kirchberg, the contractor will start by installing the gas mains and then conclude with the work on the dry utility networks for the needs of Creos Électricité, the Service TIC and the Service Éclairage public.

The works to put in place the main conduit crossings will also start at the official beginning of the collective summer leave. The works are expected to be carried out mainly on weekends.
