Ahoy, matey! The City's model sailboats will return to the P...
The City is currently carrying out construction to extend the school building, the sports centre and the underground car park in Cents on Rue Léon Kauffman.
Description of the project:
The extension of the school building will include, on the ground floor, the childcare centre with four play rooms and three early education rooms, and on the upper floor, six preschool classrooms. It will also include a multi-purpose room, a craft room, a library and an educational kitchen.
The sports centre will include a slightly sunken sports hall measuring 45 by 30 metres, divisible into three sections with bleachers for 150 spectators. It will also be able to serve as a multi-purpose room with a capacity of 460.
The pool, measuring 25 by 15 metres, will be at the same level as the sports hall ceiling. The depth of the swimming pool will be partly adjustable.
The upper level will include a weight-lifting room and a dojo.
The underground car park will have 95 parking spaces and will be open to the public.
Commencement of work: November 2016
Planned duration: 33 months
Planned completion: mid 2019
For vehicular traffic:
The section of Rue Léon Kauffman between Rue Arthur Knaff and Rue Robert Bruch will be completely closed to traffic in both directions from Monday 7 November 2016, as this area will be part of the future school and sports campus. The parking spots along this section will no longer be available.
Rue Arthur Knaff will be open to two-way traffic from Monday 7 November 2016.
The car park of the community centre (centre sociétaire) will be closed to the public for the duration of the works (currently expected to end in July 2019).
Parking on Rue Robert Bruch (angled parking spaces in front of houses Nos. 3–15) as well as parking on Boulevard Simonis (between houses Nos. 109 and 119) and on Rue Gabriel de Marie (between houses Nos. 7 and 9) will be regulated to permit parking for a maximum of five hours.
In addition to the kerbside parking spaces, parents may use the public parking on Boulevard Simonis and Rue Gabriel de Marie to drop off their children.
For the duration of the works, the school bus stop will be temporarily located on Rue Arthur Knaff, across from Rue Joseph Massarette.
However, pedestrian access will be guaranteed throughout the duration of the works.
For businesses and deliveries:
The City will try to ensure access for deliveries to local businesses throughout the duration of the works.
As construction progresses, the traffic constrictions will change.
Progress to date
Construction began in November 2016.
How long will the work take?
There are currently no indications that construction will overrun the expected schedule. Planned completion: mid 2019
What work has already been completed?
Levelling work has been completed.
What remains to be done?
Since June 2017, the contractor has begun the structural work – i.e. the work to build and stabilise the new building, as well as exterior development work.
To make life easier for residents while these works are being carried out, the City has implemented a series of measures, including the option to participate in site meetings. Residents affected by the works may participate in these meetings to obtain additional information about the project's progress and present any complaints they may have.
